Get involved

Patient focus and public involvement (PFPI)

"I have been involved as a volunteer with NHS 24 for five years. During that time, I have seen the service grow from being an 'out of hours' health service to include so much more. As volunteers, we are encouraged to participate in many aspects of NHS 24's business and our input helps shape strategies and plans to ensure the service is the best it can be. Our opinions are appreciated and acted on."

Gordon Guthrie, PPF member

“I feel NHS 24 staff appreciate the contribution made by the volunteers.”

Jane Turner, PPF member

NHS 24 is committed to involving the public in service developments. There are a number of ways that you can get involved and help us achieve the best standards of care, including:

PFPI is about making a difference. Sometimes a small change to health services makes a big difference to a patient or carer's experience.

Partnership working

At NHS 24, we are keen to learn from working alongside people who use our services. We believe that by working together and creating strong links between NHS 24, patients and the public, we are able to provide the best standard of care to the people of Scotland.

There are many benefits to partnership working, including:

  • openness
  • trust
  • transparency
  • credibility
  • accountability
  • better decision making.

Once involved, we will ensure that you are fully supported and that your contribution is recognised.

Involving you

It's not only members of our Public Partnership Forum who have a say in what we do. We involve members of the public in many ways, including the development of our new Patient Focus and Public Involvement Strategy 2015 to 2018.

Our Patient Focus and Public Involvement Strategy sets out how we plan to involve patients and the public in the development of our service from 2012 to 2015.

We have recently retained our Investing in Volunteers (IiV) accreditation for involving volunteers in our work.

This is one of a number of initiatives we take part in to support our equality, diversity and public involvement work.
