This strain of swine flu can be treated with antiviral medicines oseltamavir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza). The UK has stocks of this medicine and there is enough to treat up to 50% of the population should they become ill during a pandemic.

Antivirals will help to:

• reduce the length of time you are ill by around a day, 
• relieve some of the symptoms, and 
• reduce the potential for serious complications like pneumonia .

Antivirals will not cure you, but they can help to lessen the symptoms and help you recover.
