Flu viruses change very quickly. For protection, a vaccine needs to be changed to the particular strain that is in circulation.
Vaccination was started in phases of priority groups.
For information on priority groups see our Question: Who will the vaccine be given to first?
Children aged over 6 months and under 5 years were eligible until end march 2010 however scientific advice shows there is no justification for offering this during the summer.
Also scientific advice has said that there is no justification for offering the vaccine to any further groups at this time however the virus will be monitored and should a further wave occur, others may then be offered it.
Vaccination will also be offered to anyone travelling to the southern hemisphere during the southern hemisphere seasonal flu period.
Check with your GP if you think you may be at risk and have not yet had the vaccine.
